Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 | Chiang Mai → Chiang Dao → Thaton → Kok River → Chiang Rai

Depart Chiang Mai and head north to Chiang Dao Cave, once used as a resting place by Burmese soldiers in the 15th century. Explore impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and Burmese-style Buddha images hidden inside the cave.

Continue to Thaton, a peaceful frontier town between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Visit Thaton Temple for panoramic views of the Kok River flowing from Myanmar into Thailand.

After lunch by the river, board a long-tail boat and cruise along the Mae Kok River (approximately 3 hours, depending on water level). Enjoy fresh air, mountain scenery, riverside villages, and a stop at a local hill tribe village before reaching Chiang Rai.
